Q & A: The deal with Brewing & XTRATUF Boots

XTRATUF | Mar 3, 20

WHY SHOULD A BREWER CONSIDER XTRATUF PRODUCTS?
XTRATUF has been the choice of commercial fisherman for more than half a century. It reputation for performance – slip resistance, ground feel, flexibility and durability - is unmatched in the marketplace. In the brewery, whether at the start of the brewing process or sanitizing at the end, there is potential for water everywhere and you want to be focused on your work not the floor, as such it has been adopted by many breweries as their boot of choice. XTRATUF materials are built to last, whether freezing saltwater, boiling wort or anything in between, XTRATUF will keep you dry and comfortable – and they can be sanitized too.

WHAT JOBS IN BREWING WOULD BENEFIT FROM THE LEGACY BOOT?
The Legacy is great for anyone working in wet environments throughout the brewing process. From the mash tun, through the bottling and after washing up, the proven Legacy Chevron outsole will give you great traction. The outsole compound has a lot of give to it, so you get good traction on wet floors, but also on diamond plate and expanded metal ladder steps so you can do your job with confidence. The upper process is unique with the boot dipped three times in neoprene leaving a seamless shell that is totally flexible, and also easy to clean and sanitize. Finally the upper is made to be rolled down so when you are in the hot stages of the brewing process you can let some of the heat out.

WHY WOULD SOMEONE CHOOSE THE SWINGSAW GLACIERTREK PRO 15 IN LEGACY BOOT INSTEAD?
The Swingsaw is built with our proprietary Glacier Trek PRO™ compound that gives superior traction on wet ice. Breweries that have freezers or other deep cold storage will appreciate the upper design which is made with foamed neoprene to keep you warm to -20F. This boot is also great for the people working the loading dock in the winter as it stands up to the cold, and the ice that inevitably follows.

WHAT BUYING ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE BREWERS FOR SELECTING THE RIGHT BOOT FOR THE JOB?
Think about your job. Think about all the surfaces you work on all day. Do you work clean, or does water get everywhere? Look at your current boots and think about how you would change them. Are they tight at the end of the day, what parts wear out the fastest? If water is a big issue, the 15” Legacy is a great choice. If you don’t need that much height, many would select the Ankle Deck Boot as it has the same outsole design but comes in a convenient 6” height. This is also the boot of choice for someone who might need to visit the brewing floor during the day, as its easy on and off design makes it simple to change into and leave by your desk. If you feel you need more room in your boots and the end of the day, consider the Wheelhouse – built on a wider platform, it has a generous fit so your feet have a little more room. Finally consider the brewery floor. Depending on how it was constructed you may little to no grit introduced to your surfacing compound or be walking on basically 40 grit sandpaper. If your soles wear out super-fast harder soles like the Wheelhouse and Legacy 2.0 may suit you better, if not the Classic Legacy and Ankle Deck Boot compounds provide the ultimate in ground control.
